  Coarse Angling Chairman's Introduction

Welcome to the re-vamped Royal Air Force Coarse Angling website, the official site for everything you wanted to know about competitive coarse angling in the RAF. RAF Coarse angling is in an extremely healthy state, being active at every level from inter-unit competitions to the full RAF Squad, and all levels in between. We are also very proud to announce a new partnership with one of the most progressive, innovative and successful tackle companies in the UK, Fox International. We share a common aim to maintain and develop angling excellence and be at the pinnacle of the sport in all respects.

We are organised on a regional basis, and every RAF Station is affiliated to a regional league, details of which can be found in this website. Each league runs a series of annual competitions and a tried and tested mechanism is in place to identify those anglers who may be good enough to be selected for the RAF representative match angling team. As a national (and even international) organisation, the RAF is able to capture and exploit regional expertise, tips and methods to the benefit of all, and I think it is fair to say that the Squad is probably the most adaptable and flexible in the country. This allows us to put together a formidable squad able to compete at the highest level (our current captain is a regular in the Wales team). This is reflected in the level of representative competition in which we compete; we regularly finish in the top 20 of the Division One National Championships and compete in a number of other high profile competitions against the best teams in the country. Few if any other RAF sports now compete at this level. The team is called Fox Match RAF, and there is rarely a week goes by when our anglers are not featured in the national angling press results pages.

The fastest growing arm of the sport in the RAF is competitive carp angling, which burst onto the scene only a couple of years ago and which is an extremely dynamic element of the sport. Again competitive success has been key and we have a depth of talent unsurpassed as can be seen from the events and captures featured elsewhere in this site. We are developing an active fixture list in addition to members of Fox RAF successfully competing at high profile national carp fishing events. We also maintain a specimen section and there is an official RAF Record list, which is now starting to make impressive reading.

In short there is something for all in this website, but as always websites are what you make of them, so I would encourage active participation and input. I’m sure there is much more we can do so please let us know your thoughts and feel free to submit articles, comments and pictures. Enjoy and tight lines.
